GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) is a global biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing science, technology and talent to improve health outcomes worldwide.
As part of GSK’s relocation of more than 3,000 employees to its new headquarters at 79 New Oxford Street, the Workplace Technology Group was appointed to deliver integrated audio visual and structured cabling solutions across the 13-floor development. The project supported collaboration spaces, executive meeting rooms, event and social areas, sound masking, SMART building technologies, DAS and future workplace connectivity.
Working together, The Audio Visual Group and The Cabling Group delivered the technology infrastructure required to support workplace collaboration, sound masking, SMART building technologies and future connectivity. The new headquarters achieved a BREEAM Outstanding rating, with technology playing a key role in creating a high-performance and sustainable workplace.
We partnered with Microsoft Teams, Samsung, Logitech, Cisco, Biamp, Crestron, Siemon Copper, and Siemon Fibre on this project.
The relocation of more than 3,000 employees into a new 13-floor headquarters created a significant technology and infrastructure requirement, with the project needing to support a large number of meeting and collaboration spaces alongside intelligent building systems and future connectivity.
The teams also had to coordinate the AV and structured cabling installations across the development while maintaining the architectural and operational requirements of the new workplace. Integrating high-bandwidth AV traffic with the corporate environment and delivering infrastructure capable of supporting DAS and SMART building technologies added further complexity.
The Audio Visual Group delivered 136 meeting rooms, executive boardrooms, event spaces and The Orangery social hub, with Microsoft Teams-based collaboration systems, Cisco codecs, Lenovo NUCs and Biamp audio. Sound masking and background music were deployed throughout the building, supported by a segregated AV network designed to keep high-bandwidth, business-critical traffic separate from corporate user data.
The Cabling Group installed approximately 4,500 Cat 6A cables and 1,900 fibre splices, providing the structured cabling backbone for DAS, SMART building technologies and future workplace connectivity. By coordinating the AV and cabling requirements as an integrated technology package, the groups helped deliver a high-performance workplace capable of supporting GSK’s operational and sustainability ambitions.
